True Devotion The True Series Book 2 eBook Liora Blake
I was so excited to read this book after loving the first book in the series, True North. While there were some minor issues, I really enjoyed the book and this author’s writing.Devon Jenkins has a pretty sweet life right now, courtesy of her rockstar brother, Trevor. It’s a far cry away from the way they grew up in the ghetto, but she still can’t shake the lessons learned there. In the ghetto, you learn to keep everyone at arm’s length because you never know their agenda or what they want from you.
Simon Cole has been half in love with his best friend and bandmate’s prickly sister since he met her. Respecting bro code, he’s kept their relationship to an endless supply of half-baked come-ons and snarky banter. Simon is hopeful to try to finally make things real with Devon after seeing Trevor let down his shields and find happiness in marriage. Simon knew that trying to prove to Devon he is serious about a real relationship would be difficult, but he never thought she would have to be convinced that she deserved love.
Devon will not be everyone’s cup of tea. She’s surly and emotionally handicapped and does a bang of job of jettisoning herself. I, myself, have a soft spot for those type of women. Devon has had a rough life, some of it by circumstance and some of it by choices she made. Her scars are very deep. Once you get past the rough exterior, there is such fragile vulnerability you can’t help but want to help and hold the person.
This is exactly what Simon sees in Devon and he is just the perfect match for her. Simon was an absolute joy to read. He’s smart and funny and just a ray of sunshine. He opens himself fully and immediately to Devon, even knowing she may very well crush him. Their sexy times are hot and very sexy.
The main issue that tripped me up was Devon’s internal narrative got completely in the way of letting the story play out. I understand she was dealing with heavy emotional baggage but saying the same thing for the 15th time just gets boring. I also thought the conflict device was out of character and a bit of a cop-out.
Loved seeing Trevor and Kate in the mix of the story and the addition of Stacia and Preston was adorable. It was interesting to see more of Trevor and Kate’s mom and how alike Devon is to her. The next book features Lucy, Kate’s sister, and her past lover – I can’t wait!
Though I didn’t like it as much as True North, this was certainly a solid and enjoyable read. I recommend this book for those who enjoy snarky sexy contemporary romance with a charming indefatigable hero and his complicated vulnerable heroine.

True Devotion The True Series Book 2 eBook Liora Blake Reviews
I read a lot and should review more. The fact that this book has so few reviews is just wrong. I've found myself rereading it 3 or 4 times even when I have untouched books on my and the world of Unlimited spread out before me.
I love Devon's attitude. Strong and sassy with the right touch of softness and vulnerability just below the surface. She's quick witted and quirky, the type of girl you'd like to be BFF's with or the type of girl you'd like imagine yourself to be. And Simon is practically perfect. A hot, charming rocker that can make a sweater vest look sexy. A geek covered over with a layer of cool. Smart, observant, charming and devoted to Devon. What else could a girl ask for?
I really liked the first book in this series and didn't think Simon could compete with Trevor, but to my surprise Simon left Trevor in the dust as well as most of my other favorite book boyfriends. I'd love to read more from this author sitting in Simon's study with the windows open listening to Bob Marley on vinyl any day of the week!
Wow... Abrupt ending... hence, the four stars... wished for more of an ending.... but I would imagine (I'm hoping?) that's probably in book three?
but another enjoyable read by this author... so far I love the first book, True North, best....
Stands alone... (but you'll get more out of it, if you've read the first book) Great author... snappy dialogue... interesting characters... lots of laughter & and maybe a few tears.. and of course, sex, sex, and more sex...lol... the words flow... an enjoyable read...
★★★★ 1/2
After reading True North, I knew I had to read True Devotion because I have become addicted to this series.
True Devotion focus's on Simon and Devon (Trevor's sister) and it is absolutely amazing. This book starts at the wedding between Kate and Trevor, and Devon trying to ignore her attraction to Simon, something she's been doing for the past two years. These two definitely have an interesting way of showing their feelings, because they are always fighting and bickering and making sexual innuendos.
When these two finally decide to give it a go, you can see how resistant Devon is to feel anything for Simon, where Simon really does wear his heart on his sleeve. I fell hard for Simon's character. He may have a reputation, but the way he is with Devon makes you swoon. When he goes after her, and takes her on a date, I was like YES, but Devon keeps a part of her hidden, and this part is self destructive and ends up causing problems between these two.
I loved how patient Simon was with Devon, he knew what he wanted from her, and her catching up to him was wonderful to read. These two definitely have chemistry, and they are definitely compatible (even if Devon can't see it) and their banter is quite hilarious at times. I did want to yell and scream at Devon though for how she treated and pushed Simon away a lot through this book. I understand why she was as guarded as she was, having been through what she had been through, but Simon was nothing but honest with her and what he wanted.
One of my favorite parts of this book was when Trevor finds out about these two. The shock and anger he showed was crazy, but it was how Simon reacted that finally drove home how much he really cared about Devon. I enjoyed getting peaks into what was going on with Trevor and Kate as well, but I truly loved Simon and Devon's story. Each of them have a past that is brutal, even if it's for different reasons, but one of them deals with them a lot better than the other.
These two definitely belong together, and even if it takes a while for them to get there I'm glad with how things ended with these two. Simon is not that big bad rock star that he comes off as, he is a geek and I think that made him even more lovable. I kind of want sheets like his are described in this book, because they are kind of amazing!
Loira Blake has written a series and characters that are hard to forget, and as much as I loved True North, I loved True Devotion even more. Simon is just amazing, and Devon is a strong character who just needs someone to give her a push to live how she should be and to feel again. This series is amazing, and I love how each book can be read as a stand alone, but we get glimpses into the previous couples life as well. If you're looking for a hot read that will have you laughing out loud and falling for the hot guitarist, definitely pick this one up today. This series is stunning and I can't wait for Lacey's story!
I have received this book as a member of the XOXperts, XOXO After Dark’s official street team, in exchange for an honest review.
